VS1 Project Named as Finalist in AIA Chicago 2025 Design Excellence Awards
Damen Green Line Station, a Perkins&Will-designed subway station in Chicago’s Westhaven Park neighborhood, was named as a finalist in the AIA Chicago 2025 Design Excellence Awards.

The project features multiple VS1 scopes, all of which support laminated glass units. Key design goals were facilitating ease-of-use through transparency while also incorporating an open-air approach in certain areas of the building. The wide variation in VS1 applications across a single project speaks to the versatility of systems and services provided by the Innovation Glass team.
Damen Green Line Station was recognized in the Architect Small category alongside the Nothing Design Co. Headquarters, designed by Range Design & Architecture, and the Sibley Boulevard Metra Station, designed by Muller2, now part of GFT.
Innovation Glass is proud to have partnered with Perkins&Will and Christopher Glass and Aluminum on this exciting project.

Today, the transit hub is open. Designed with safety in mind, patrons can see clearly within the building and to and from the street. Additionally, a vibrant mural by a community artist, as well as bike and bus lanes, finally connect the long-neglected community to art and mobility options.

Multiple VS1 glass curtain wall scopes:
Main elevation is direct glazed via SSG with continuous exterior cover caps.
5 elevations designed as classic (drilled) point-supported glass curtain walls.
Custom standoffs were designed with slip-critical connections between the spider arms to allow for a more streamlined installation process.
1 of the 5 designed in shingle-like arrangement to allow airflow.
Connector bridge with channel-set walls and roof with exterior custom mullions.
Canopies with point-supported hook system.

The February 2025 issue of Chronogram Magazine features a story about an all-glass VS1 Home in the Hudson Valley. Designed by Innovation Glass CEO Franz Safford, the house achieves the owners’ dreams of connection to nature and panoramic views.

"We wanted abundant natural light, privacy, indoor-outdoor living spaces, and room to grow but we didn't have a fixed image of what the house should look like.”
Following that vision—and letting it surprise them with a few twists and turns—led them to create a modern, 2,500-square-foot dwelling that melts into the Hudson Valley landscape. Even though the three-bedroom home stands only one story tall, it reaches far above their initial expectations for the home. "Building the house demonstrated that big dreams—even ones that seem impossible—can become reality when you combine clear vision with deliberate action."

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi Inaugurates New Boeing HQ in India
On January 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) campus in Bengaluru (Bangalore). The building features a 30m VS1 facade, 14m of which is a clear spanning unreinforced aluminum curtain wall—a world record.
On January 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) campus in Bengaluru (Bangalore). The building features a 30m VS1 facade, 14m of which is a clear spanning unreinforced aluminum curtain wall—a world record.
This new technology center is located on a 43-acre campus, which is Boeing’s largest facility outside of the United States.
“Boeing said that the BIETC will become a cornerstone for partnering with India on next generation products and services for the global aerospace and defence industry,” reported The Hindu.
“The Prime Minister also launched the Boeing Sukanya Program that aims to support the entry of more girl children from across India into the country’s growing aviation sector.”

Two VS1 Projects Named as Finalists for 2023 AIA Chicago Design Excellence Awards
AIA Chicago announced the finalists for the 2023 Design Excellence, and two projects featuring VS1 facades are included: the Chicago O’Hare International Airport Terminal 5 Extension and St. Regis Tower.
This month AIA Chicago (the second largest AIA chapter in the country) announced the finalists for the 2023 Design Excellence, and two projects featuring VS1 facades are included: the Chicago O’Hare International Airport Terminal 5 Extension and St. Regis Tower. In both cases, the architect named VS1 and the Innovation Glass team as a critical component of the project.
