Amazon Hank Wall Renovation

Architect: WRNS
Installer: Empire Architectural Metal
Location: New York, NY

VS1 was selected for the renovation of this glass wall in the iconic Lord & Taylor building in NYC, which was purchased by Amazon in 2020 and converted into an office building.

The new facade is composed of standard 5” VS1 mullions spaced at 1’ 8” apart. The mullion spacing was specifically chosen to match the 20th Century initial skylight mullion spacing to acknowledge the history of the building. Five operable vents are integrated into the dual incline wall.

The original skylight had horizontal members which are eliminated by VS1, and so the new solution speaks to the cutting edge technology available today resulting in a spectacular modern interpretation, which is loved by the building occupants: the space is a destination place in the complex.

Innovation Glass was also selected to engineer the custom glass skylight over the grand staircase in the same building.

Testimonial from Moses Vaughn, Senior Associate & Director of Architectural Technology at WRNS

“I have worked with Franz and Innovation Glass on several projects over the last 10 years; in every case the collaborative effort has been incredibly successful. From the outset, Franz brought his architectural background to the effort; and was able to anticipate and solve aesthetic challenges as adeptly as technical ones. The inevitable speed bumps along the supply chain were negotiated with full transparency; and the IG team always stepped up to the plate. I can heartily recommend Innovation Glass and the VS-1 system for any project seeking a high value glazing solution.”
